In addition to Krebs makes a good argument, I think there are several other reasons why we might want to consider treating computer programming as a core part of the liberal arts education. Triggered by Elisabeth I had an eye on stuff while starting to read The Psychology of Computer Programming only recently – yeah, I didn't read all of Jerry's books so far. Computational thinking influences fields such as biology, chemistry, linguistics, psychology, economics and statistics. Computer-Programming I recently read (sort of) Frederick Brooks's The Mythical Man-Month. Comments to local standards, program specs, increased performance, etc. As pedagogy, I would consider it the re-application of Constructivist principles to the learning of Programming Languages and teaching of Computer Science in the age of the Internet. Wienbergs "Psychology of Comp Programming" delved into the effect of languages a little. Computer Science is a discipline. Then there's the Psychology of Computer Programming - but that's from the 20th anniversary printing. The human principles of software are truly timeless; The Psychology of Computer Programming was written way back in 1971. As I understand it, this book is a cult classic, and I was very curious to read it. Anyway, my challenge – to myself – will be to read and post a review of the books in there. From this, arose the idea of teaching Concepts of programming languages first.
